What you should know before signing up from abroad
Trend Micro is a global security vendor, so the core antivirus product behaves the same wherever you are. You can buy a subscription, download Maximum Security or Internet Security, activate the license key, and run real-time scans from Thailand, Argentina or anywhere else with no VPN and no US billing address. Checkout takes international Visa, MasterCard, JCB and American Express, plus PayPal and Google Pay, so a local card works as well as a US one.
The honest drawback is the bundled Trend Micro VPN component. Per Trend Micro's own availability list, the VPN is not published in several of the countries expats actually live in — including Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia. The antivirus, web protection, password manager and other features all still work in those countries; only the VPN add-on is unavailable, so do not buy a higher tier purely for that VPN if you live there.
If you want a VPN as well, it works in Malaysia, Costa Rica, Panama, Argentina and South Africa. Renewal billing can also surprise people: Trend Micro auto-renews and pricing is region-dependent, so check the renewal price in your account and turn off auto-renew if you would rather decide manually each year.
