Where we checked
What you should know before signing up from abroad
Kanary is a browser-based data-removal service, so geography barely matters to the app itself. You can create an account from Bangkok or Buenos Aires, log in, and run a scan with no VPN, no US phone number, and no US billing address. Payment runs through Stripe, which takes US-issued cards and most international cards alike. For an American living overseas, the dashboard behaves exactly as it would back home.
The honest limitation is scope, not access. Kanary is tuned for US data brokers and people-finder sites — and recently the UK — so it is excellent at scrubbing the American digital footprint you carried abroad with you. It does not meaningfully target data brokers in Thailand, the Philippines, or other local markets. If your concern is your US exposure, that is exactly what it does; if you want your new country's brokers covered, Kanary is not built for that yet.
A few removals (Facebook, some sites) require you to confirm or approve the request, and monthly rescans are recommended since exposures resurface. Kanary offers a free trial and a refund window, so you can verify from your location before committing. Outside the US and UK, the team asks you to email them about edge cases, but the core service runs fine from abroad.
Quick answers
Can I use Kanary if I live outside the US?
Yes. The app has no geo-block and needs no US address or phone. It is most useful for removing your US data-broker listings, which is what it specializes in.
Do I need a VPN to access Kanary from abroad?
No. The dashboard and scans load normally from overseas. A US VPN is not required to sign up, pay, or run removals.
Will it remove me from data brokers in my new country?
Largely no. Kanary focuses on US (and UK) brokers and people-finder sites, so it scrubs your American footprint rather than local foreign listings.
