Where we checked
What you should know before signing up from abroad
Everand is Scribd's reading subscription, bundling over 1.5 million ebooks and audiobooks for one monthly fee. Its support docs state the service works in any country unless a local ISP or government blocks it, and we saw no block in Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam or the other countries we checked. You sign up with any email, no US address or phone needed, and the app and website load normally on a local IP with no VPN.
The honest catch is catalog coverage. Publishers hold territorial sales rights, so not every title is licensed in every country. A book or audiobook on your US wishlist may simply not appear, or show as unavailable, when you browse from abroad. The subscription itself works fine; the specific library you see can be thinner than the one back home, and there is no way to force the full US catalog without a US VPN.
Payment is flexible: US credit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay all work, and so do local non-US cards. Note that Everand prices and bills in the currency of your payment method's country, so a card issued abroad may charge a different rate than the $11.99 US price. Prepaid and non-reloadable cards are not accepted.
Quick answers
Do I need a VPN to use Everand abroad?
No. Everand loads on a normal local connection in the countries we checked. A US VPN only matters if you want titles licensed solely to the US.
Can I pay with a local, non-US card?
Yes. Everand accepts non-US cards as well as US cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay. It bills in your card's country currency.
Will I get the same books I had in the US?
Mostly, but not always. Publisher territory rights mean some titles are unavailable outside the US, so your local catalog can differ slightly.
