What you should know before signing up from abroad

CuriosityStream is one of the few US streaming services that genuinely works overseas. We signed up and streamed from Thailand, the Philippines and seven other countries with no VPN and no US address. The help center openly states the service is available worldwide, and both US and locally issued Visa or Mastercard cards went through at checkout. The 7-day free trial and the cheap annual plan are the same prices you'd see in the States.

The honest drawback: your catalog shrinks abroad. CuriosityStream's own original documentaries play everywhere, but licensed third-party titles from the BBC, ZED, TerraNoa and others are geo-blocked by country. So you get the core library wherever you live, but a noticeably thinner selection than someone watching in the US. If a specific licensed series is what you came for, it may simply not appear in your country.

If you want the complete US library, a US-based VPN restores it, since the service serves the catalog based on your IP address. But you do not need a VPN just to subscribe or to watch the originals — that part works natively. For most expats the native experience is enough; the VPN is only about unlocking the extra licensed shows.

Quick answers

Can I watch CuriosityStream in Thailand or the Philippines without a VPN?

Yes. The service streams natively in both countries. A VPN is only needed if you want the full US catalog of licensed titles.

Will my US credit card work, or do I need a local one?

Either works. CuriosityStream accepts US and international Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Discover cards, and even prepaid cards.

Is the content the same as in the United States?

Not quite. Originals play worldwide, but licensed third-party shows are geo-restricted, so your catalog abroad is smaller than the US one.
