Where we checked
What you should know before signing up from abroad
Brilliant is a web-based STEM learning platform with no geographic restrictions. We created accounts and opened courses from Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Costa Rica, Panama, Argentina, and South Africa with no geo-block and no VPN. Lessons, the mobile apps, and your streak all sync the same way they do in the US.
The one thing to know: Brilliant prices the subscription by the region your card or IP shows, and you cannot manually switch currency. That is usually neutral or cheaper abroad, but it means the price you see may differ from a US friend's. PayPal is offered in many countries but not all, so a card is the more reliable option.
Payment is straightforward from overseas. US credit and debit cards are charged without issue, and local non-US cards work in most markets. There is no US billing address, US phone number, or identity check required to subscribe, so an account opened from abroad behaves exactly like one opened at home.
Quick answers
Do I need a VPN to use Brilliant abroad?
No. The site, courses, and mobile apps work normally overseas. A VPN is only ever used by people chasing cheaper regional pricing, not for access.
Can I pay with a non-US card?
Yes. Local credit and debit cards are accepted in most countries, and PayPal is available in many. US cards also work fine from abroad.
Will the price be different than in the US?
Possibly. Brilliant sets pricing by your region and you can't switch currency manually. It's often the same or lower, but it may not match a US price.
